Oh Foolish Galatians?

Are You Really a "Foolish Galatian" For Trying to Obey YHWH?

As soon as you start trying to walk out the Torah as a Believer in Yeshua, your friends and family will immediately start quoting Paul's writings to try and tell you not to do so. And more often than not, their primary go-to book will be Paul's letter to the Galatians. So, let's deal with that issue head on!

First, we must ask, is Galatians the ONLY book in the Christian Bible? I think not. However, to read the usual antinomian responses to just about anything pertaining to the Law of YHWH, you would think it is. I personally have no problem with the book. I love it along with all the others it AGREES with.

Saw something interesting today. Did you know that Paul is not the only one who wrote to the Galatians? Peter did too.

1 Peter 1:

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

He was writing to those in Galatia who are “kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation” – or in other words, Believers.

What’s even more interesting to me is the Jamieson-Faust-Brown Bible Commentary makes note of the timing and audience of his 2nd epistle…

Authenticity and genuineness.—If not a gross imposture, its own internal witness is unequivocal in its favor. It has Peter’s name and apostleship in its heading: not only his surname, but his original name Simon, or Simeon, he thus, at the close of his life, reminding his readers who he originally was before his call. Again, in 2Pe 1:16-18, he mentions his presence at the Transfiguration, and Christ’s prophecy of his death! and in 2Pe 3:15, his brotherhood with Paul. Again, in 2Pe 3:1, the author speaks of himself as author of the former Epistle: it is, moreover, addressed so as to include (but not to be restricted to) the same persons as the first, whom he presupposes to be acquainted with the writings of Paul, by that time recognized as “Scripture” (2Pe 3:15, “the long-suffering of God,” compare Ro 2:4). This necessarily implies a late date, when Paul’s Epistles (including Romans) already had become generally diffused and accepted as Scripture in the Church.

Written after Paul’s writings, the 2nd epistle of Peter is believed to have been addressed to the same people to whom his first epistle was written, which included those in GALATIA (in other words, the Galatians). With that in mind, note how he concludes this second epistle to the GALATIANS…

2 Peter 3:

This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

The ESV drives the point home a lot clearer, staying more true to the Greek in verses 15 – 17:

15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, 16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability.

How amazingly ironic is it that the very book people use ALL THE TIME to justify falling into “the error of Lawlessness” should be a book written to the same people group that both Paul and Peter addressed!? A group to whom Peter gave firm warning (AFTER Paul’s epistles were written) NOT to twist and distort Paul’s sometimes “hard to understand” writings in such a way that you forget what the prophets (who ALL advocated for obeying the Torah of YHWH) had written from long before.

Those were the last recorded words we have from Peter, the man to whom Yeshua passed His shepherd staff, telling him to care for His sheep (John 21:15-17). Then, we turn the page to 1 John 1 and read the final words written in the whole Bible, by the last author of Scripture, the “beloved disciple” who wrote just 5 chapters into his first epistle (which many believe was written to the EPHESIANS):

1 John 5:

2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.

Many like to pull the “foolish Galatians” line on me whenever I suggest we do the same thing John just mentioned above. Tell you what: Do a little study on what it means to be “wise” and gain “wisdom” according to the Scriptures first, then after that do a study on what it actually means to be “foolish.” Here’s just a little taste of what wisdom and foolishness is according to the Scriptures (and the RED letter ones at that!):

Matthew 7:

“21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH THE WILL OF MY FATHER which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. {Greek: Lawlessness}

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a WISE man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a FOOLISH man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”

With all of this in mind, I’d like to just offer a little suggestion: Don’t be a “foolish (antinomian=lawless) Galatian.” Heed the words of Peter and learn what Paul knew before proving yourself to be ignorant and unstable twisitng his words to your own destruction.

Who Has Bewitched You?

Oh foolish Galatians, please come out of the DPM before it’s too late. What is the DPM you may ask? It is the Deluded Paulian Movement – also known as the “ignorant and unstable” of 2 Peter 3:16 who “twist and distort” Paul’s writings. Peter warns us to stay away from such people.

2 Peter 3:17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability.

Some love to quote Paul’s writings to the Galatians when he was asking “who has bewitched you?” This is usually hurled at those of us who desire to obey YHWH. OK. I’ve already established who a “foolish Galatian” really is in another note – see: Oh Foolish Galatians

Now, let’s look at the definition of “bewitch” shall we? For context, here is the usual passage quoted by antinomians in the DPM…

Galatians 3:1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified.

According to Webster, this is the definition of “bewitch”:

bewitch

1a : to influence or affect especially injuriously by witchcraft

1b : to cast a spell over

2: to attract as if by the power of witchcraft

What does the Bible have to say about “witchcraft?”

1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Hmmm… witchcraft comes from rebelling and rejecting the word of YHWH. Webster defines rebellion as…

rebellion

1: opposition to one in authority or dominance

2a : open, armed, and usually unsuccessful defiance of or resistance to an established government

2b : an instance of such defiance or resistance

Funny how so many DPM’ers will use Galatians 3:1 to come against those who actually want to obey YHWH! It is soooo easy to see what Peter was warning the Galatians about once you come out of the DPM. Perhaps you are not yet seeing what I’m seeing, so let’s go a little deeper, shall we?

Quoting Paul’s writing to the Galatatians again, people in the DPM also like to use this one:

Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

We have freedom and liberty in Christ! Yippie!! Ok…. so, are we therefore to believe that we are free to walk in rebellion? I think not. Hopefully you agree. Let’s continue…

Galatians 5:

18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Woa! Wait a minute! Help me out DPM’er. Paul said we are not “under the Law” yet he also says that those who practice “witchcraft” will not inherit the kngdom of God. Yet, in your minds, “witchcraft” = keeping the Torah (as always implied in your quoting of Galatians 3:1). I know this to be a fact as many of you have used it in that context here on my wall and prominant YouTube preachers (who shall remain nameless) have actually accused me publically of “practicing witchcraft” because of my pro-Torah stance. In fact, others have written a number of blogs accusing me of being under the “doctrine of devils” for the same reason.

OK. Let’s get back to a BIBLICAL definition of things associated with demons and witchcraft… beginning with the Torah:

Deuteronomy 18:

9 “When you enter the land which the Lord your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations.

10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,

11 or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.

12 For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord; and because of these detestable things the Lord your God will drive them out before you.

13 You shall be blameless before the Lord your God.

14 For those nations, which you shall dispossess, listen to those who practice witchcraft and to diviners, but as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do so.

15 “The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him.

Care to guess who this “Prophet” is that is likened unto Moses? Hopefully you guessed right. Yeshua. Now, do you honestly think Yeshua, the prophet like Moses would tutor Paul (AT Mt. Sinai no less!) into thinking that obedience to the Torah was = to “witchcraft?” Seriously??? Continuing…

Leviticus 19:26 You shall not eat anything with the blood, nor practice divination or soothsaying {aka witchcraft}.

It is abundantly clear from the Scriptures that YHWH is against witchcraft!

2 Chronicles 33:

1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem:

2 But did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.

3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.

4 Also he built altars in the house of the Lord, whereof the Lord had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.

5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord.

6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.

YHWH didn’t like Manasseh messing around with witchcraft and He certainly doesn’t seem to have ever changed His mind about that!

Micah 5:12 And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:

Can you honestly twist and distort that into “I will cut off practicioners of my Law out of your land” and still think you have a correct view of Paul??

In the Last Days, YHWH pours out His wrath on those who practice witchcraft…

Revelation 9:

20 The rest of the people who survived these plagues did not repent from their evil actionsm or stop worshiping demons and idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which cannot see, hear, or walk.

21 They did not repent from their murders, their witchcraft, their sexual immorality, or their thefts.

and again…

Revelation 18:23 The light from a lamp will never shine within you again. The voice of a bridegroom and bride will never be heard within you again. For your merchants were the important people of the world, and all the nations were deceived by your witchcraft.

Note: YHWH is NOT saying that all the world has been deceived into obeying His Torah!! Those who obey Him, He rewards. The others He punishes. This is (or should be) like Bible Basics 101 guys!

Revelation 21:

5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

The Galatians distorting DPM’ers have it all flipped around! Sorry guys, but from Genesis to Revelation, keeping the Commandments of YHWH is a GOOD THING and not keeping them is equal to rebellion, which is equal to witchcraft… which is a bad thing.

Revelation 22:

14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

I don’t know about you, but I’m kinda craving some o’ dat Tree O’ Life fruit if you know what I mean. And if you want some too, you may want to seriously consider making an Exodus out of the Deluded Paulian Movement who regularly twist and distort the Word of YHWH ending up in the “error of lawlessness.”

Just sayin’.
